Well folks, it’s here.

At 18:00 (UTC) today Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, took to the stage to announce Apple’s newest iPhone; iPhone 5.

So whats the fuss? Well read on below and we’ll give you all the spec’s on the newest phone from Apple.

Spec:

Alrighty, every one wants to know spec, and we have it all for you here!

The iPhone 5 will run on Apple’s new A6 processor, and  although Apple never give the details of RAM its likely the iPhone 5 has 1GB of RAM. The screen has been expanded to that of 4′ inches, with an aspect ratio of 1136 x 640 and 326ppi.

The device itself is made of aluminium, and glass, and the aluminium has a very nice brushed effect. The headphone jack has been moved to the bottom, and volume buttons are in the same place as the 4 & 4S.

The rear camera is an 8MP affair with flash and an f 2.4 aperture, whilst on the front is a 1.2MP lens that runs at 30fps. Video recording is 1080p quality and also runs at 30fps.

Apple have introduced a new SIM card which is called the nanoSIM, so far is the only phone to be compatible, whether or not other manufacturers will adopt this is as yet questionable, but likely.

The device itself, now weighs just 3.9 oz / 112 grams and is 123.8mm long,  58.6mm wide & 7.6mm thick, which, considering the iPhone 4S was compact at 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3mm is incredible.

The Dock Connector

The rumours were true. The 19 pin connector has now gone so loved and used by millions has been replaced. Replaced by an 80% smaller connector called Lightning! Do not  fear however, Apple have made an adaptor so you can use that huge cupboard of iOS based hardware you have in your life for just £29. Whilst it is somewhat bulky, it does what you need it to do, and Apple will no doubt sell A LOT of these, so get in quick!

Available in 16GB, 32GB & 64GB, all models will of course sport WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, an accelerometer, gyroscope and digital compass.

During the presentation, Tim Cook went to great lengths to say that the iPhone 5 will work in most countries and will change LTE networks automatically. Whilst a definitive list was not provided, this is what we were able to glean from those venerable chaps at Engadget

    • Well that’s the price on Apple’s website. So that will be for an unlocked iPhone 5. No doubt carriers will charge around £100 – £120 and then £45-£50 per month from then on.
